Screen print on Pizza box – Concept art
Political Gestures on a Pizza Box: Artwork by Matheus Rocha Pitta
"Feed" is a screen print from the "Ten Pizza Commandments" series by Portuguese artist Matheus Rocha Pitta. The work combines conceptual depth with everyday materials, creating a provocative discrepancy between high art and disposable packaging.
Material & Execution
The screen print was created in 2021 on an original pizza box (41 × 87 × 4 cm). The motif appropriates the first photograph of a black hole from the Wall Street Journal (April 2019) and relates it to acts of consumption: A black hole in a plastic bag, two hands opening it, a third throwing a coin. The composition alludes to the black hole's absorptive power – as a metaphor for endless accumulation and debt. The work is a numbered and stamped edition of 100 copies, signed by the artist.
Context & Exhibition
"Feed" was created for the exhibition of the same name in 2021 at CASSTL (Carla Arocha's, Stéphane Schraenen's, and Luc Tuyman's non-profit art center in Antwerp). Rocha Pitta is internationally recognized – in August 2025, he will present the performative sculpture "First Stone" at the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin.
Who is this for?
This work is aimed at art collectors who appreciate conceptual and political positions. It appeals to you if the intertwining of Pop Art aesthetics, social critique, and artisanal screen printing techniques is important to you. "Feed" functions as a self-contained art object or as part of a conceptual collection that explores the role of objects in consumption and protest.
At youro.shop, you will find curated original works by artists who seriously represent their positions – not mass production, but individual works with a story.
